Experience

Experience

Scientific research grounded in fifteen years of building analytical products and organisations.

My work combines computational ecology, scientific software and field monitoring with experience founding and scaling an AI-led analytics business, and current advisory, NED and trustee roles.

Professional background

From AI analytics to computational ecology.

Although the subject matter has changed, the underlying approach remains similar. I identify meaningful signals in complex systems, develop quantitative methods to understand them, and build tools that make the resulting evidence easier to interpret and use.

Advisory · NED · Trustee

Strategy, governance and stakeholder communication.

I support organisations with strategy, governance and stakeholder communication through consultancy, non-executive director and trustee roles.

Recent work includes NED positions at two start-ups, advising a multinational corporate affairs agency on embedding AI in its solutions portfolio, and supporting several biodiversity start-ups ahead of seed funding.

2009–2021 · Co-founder

alva, now part of Penta Group

I co-founded alva Reputation Analysis, an AI-led analytics business that helped organisations understand how they were perceived across large and fragmented information environments.

The central challenge was to make an intangible concept measurable. I designed and modelled the core reputation and ESG methodologies, combining large-scale media and stakeholder data into structured evidence that clients could use to understand risk, performance and change.

Alongside the analytical work, I helped build the company from start-up, led the UK business, developed its marketing and thought-leadership platform, restructured operations and managed senior relationships with major international clients including PwC, Roche, Anglo American, Marks & Spencer, AstraZeneca and BAE Systems.

My research and analysis appeared in outlets including the BBC, Bloomberg, The Times, The i and The Daily Telegraph. The experience continues to shape how I approach ecological research: careful problem definition, transparent methodology and a strong emphasis on outputs that can be used beyond the original analysis.

2023–2027

University College London · Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

PhD in Ecology

Fully funded doctoral research developing computational models to predict how temperate forest communities, functional traits and ecosystem properties may change under future climates.
